The Vickers hardness test, developed in 1921 at Vickers Ltd, measures a material's resistance to plastic deformation using a diamond pyramid indenter. It is applicable to all metals and has one of the widest scales among hardness tests. The resulting value is the Vickers Pyramid Number (HV).
